GWRRA Chapter CA-1K
News from the Chapter Educator

THE RIDER EDUCATION PROGRAM

In January several of our Board had the opportunity to attend the District Conference held in Bakersfield.  For me it was a great opportunity to meet and visit with Chapter Board members from around California, but more important, fellow Chapter Educators.

After being officially sworn in (hopefully not at) as Educator, we held a break-out session to review our duties, how to access the Rider Education website, and learn about all the paperwork we must complete each month as part of the job.  I would like to focus on a couple of key things I hope we can accomplish this year.

Promote the Comprehensive Rider Education Program:

Through Commitment, Education and Application, we can help to reduce accident rates significantly.  Listed below are several benefits of a fully implemented GWRRA Rider Education Program at the District and Chapter level:

ü  Increased rider knowledge

ü  Increased rider safety skills

ü  Prevention of accidents

ü  Reduced injuries

ü  Reduced fatalities

ü  Improved general public image of motorcyclists

ü  Enhanced enjoyment of motorcycle riding

ü  Enhanced motorcycle safety through Motorist Awareness public presentations.

Both the motorcycle and motorist community are already realizing many positive benefits from the GWRRA Rider Education Program. Through the efforts of the Rider Education Officers and volunteers throughout the world, we will reach our goal of establishing the safest motorcycle environment possible.  As a Chapter how do we accomplish this task?

ü  By updating our membership and Rider Education Level Database.  I will be contacting members to ensure the Rider Education database is correct and help determine what training would be of value to our members and Chapter as a whole.

ü  Becoming certified to train, or finding local trainers, who can help our members with specific classes and activities such as First aid / CPR, Advanced Rider Courses, Parking Lot Practice Sessions, Safe Riding Seminars, etc.

ü  Providing routine feedback on member’s education status to help us stay current.

ü
Celebrating safe riding accomplishments and awarding patches and pins with pride.

The biggest thing I learned of our District Conference was the wealth of talent and dedication of GWRRA members, and their willingness to reach out and assist us in reaching our goal best described by our motto:

Our Motto…

“Safety is for Life”

Our Mission…

“To Save Lives Trough Quality, World Class Education”
